Frequently
Asked Questions:
Where do the doves go?
After being carefully released Rock Doves {homing doves} fly home
to their loft in Woodfin, where they will have food and water and
a family to come home to.
How far can they fly?
Many hours and miles go into the training of the doves. Like
athletes they exercise regularly, have good diets, and gradually build
up the endurance to fly many miles back home. They love to fly
and will be trained to approx. 50-60 miles of their loft.
Will the doves defecate on me?
Good question! As professionals, we feed the birds when they
arrive home after an event. When the doves fly, their legs are tucked
into their back tail feathers preventing them from dropping (you know
what).
Can
we hold the doves and release one?
You must work with a "dove handler" and be taught to hold
one correctly and
release it.
Can the doves fly at night?
No, we require ample time for them to return home before dark or
seriously
dangerous weather.
Can
they be released indoors?
No, the doves need an open unrestricted place to be released outdoors.
